The Triennial 2025
The first of its kind
For six months, hundreds of thousands of people from Boston, New England, and beyond will experience the power and provocation of bold, brilliant public art.
From May to October 2025, the inaugural Boston Public Art Triennial will present 15 compelling commissions sprawled across the city. Each visionary local, national, and international artist will produce sculptures, interactive exhibits, or performance-based and community-led activities with an emphasis on East Boston, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, ensuring equitable representation and access. The Triennial 2025’s commissioned works will be joined by additional public art experiences across the city.

The Exchange
Celebrating the power of art to build bridges, The Exchange is an artist-driven and expert-supported cross-disciplinary exhibition of immersive landmark artworks and programming, dynamically created in dialogue with and beneficial to host locations. Curated works address intractable issues in new and inspired ways, nurturing collaboration and strengthening community resilience.

The Exchange was developed by the Triennial’s Artistic Director Pedro Alonzo, Curator Tess Lukey, and a Curatorial Advisory Group.
Artistic Director Pedro Alonzo (he/him; b. 1971, Tijuana, Mexico), is an independent curator renowned for exhibitions that move beyond traditional museum spaces.
“Public art has the ability to engage communities and address intractable issues in new ways, allowing us to break from narratives that keep us from envisioning the equitable solutions we seek.”
Curator Tess Lukey (she/her; b. 1993, Worcester, MA) is a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head Aquinnah, MassArt Alum ‘16, practicing ceramicist, and Associate Curator of Native American Art at The Trustees of Reservations.
“We believe that when large exhibitions come to Boston, they become part of the city’s identity, and when they include Indigenous artists, they become part of the City’s identity too.”

Our proven engagement strategy, Respond, Energize, Activate, Collaborate, and Honor (REACH), ensures site-appropriate commissions. Paid Community Captains and a Community Advisory Group facilitate cross-community dialogue, holding Boston Public Art Triennial accountable to the community's programmatic needs.
