Olawumi Akinwumi (She/Her) is the Assistant Director of Community Engagement at Nuestra Comunidad. In this role, she is pivotal in managing events at Oasis Park, focusing on developing arts and culture programs, presenting projects related to the Roxbury artist community, and deeply engaging with Roxbury residents. Her responsibilities extend to overseeing a membership group and serving as the NAAC Director at ArtsBoston. With a background in event management and public relations, Ola brings over ten years of experience in live entertainment and social media to her current role.
Before joining Nuestra Comunidad, Ola was the Director of Hibernian Hall at Madison Park Development Corporation for over five years. During her tenure, she fostered the celebration of Roxbury's cultural heritage through original quality theater productions and creative arts programming. Ola's expertise spans non-profits, youth advocacy, and affordable housing, and she is a dedicated resident of Roxbury. Her enthusiasm for the revitalization of Roxbury is evident in her efforts to bring a diverse range of art genres and civic events to the community. Ola holds an MS in communications management from Simmons School of Management and a BS from New Hampshire. She initially pursued a major in Tourism Planning and Development.
She began her career at the Sheraton Boston Hotel as an Executive Meeting Specialist, gradually taking on various roles that shaped her into an impresario.
